BANDUNG, November 13 (EngineeringDaily) -- Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime, Indroyono Soesilo, reported that US businessmen are poised to disburse large amounts of investment funds to various projects in Indonesia. At the US-Indonesia Investment Summit in Jakarta, Soesilo claimed, "They are ready to invest USD 61 billion in the next 5 years.”
The event, held in early November, is organized annually by the American Chambers of Commerce in Indonesia (Amcham) with the goal of improving mutual investing by both countries.
US entrepreneurs look to be involved in all strategic sectors. Soesilo offered the examples of transportation (especially railways and ports), tourism, fisheries, power generation, and oil and gas as particularly proper areas of investment.
In order to create a more conducive climate for investment, Soesilo said the Indonesian government will streamline and shorten the licensing process, providing project assurance from the Ministry of Finance, and speed up land acquisitions that often present an obstacle to any infrastructure projects in Indonesia.
In addition to various government officials and ministers, the event also included local leaders. Mayor of Bandung Ridwan Kamil and Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini, both known as rising political stars who manage densely populated cities, personally offered investment opportunities in their respective cities.
