Indonesian and Chinese Companies Sign 12 Cooperation Agreements

BANDUNG, November 12 (EngineeringDaily) -- Several Indonesian and Chinese companies signed a total of 12 memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreements during the Indonesia-China Trade Investment and Economic Forum, one of the side events of the APEC meeting in Beijing, China. The areas of cooperation are to be carried out in various sectors.

Chief Organizer for the Indonesia-China Trade Investment and Economic Forum, Didi Suwondo, said the MoUs are predominantly investments in the minerals and mining sector, as well as in infrastructure and agriculture. "The advantage of having this event is that it provides a fair opportunity for prospective investors to work on infrastructure projects in Indonesia," said Suwondo.

However, Suwondo also explained that these MoU agreements are merely materialization of interest, not yet detailed construction contracts, which will require further talks between the respective companies.

The 12 MoU agreements are as follows, with Chinese companies listed first:
1. Development of a cargo ship business with a capacity of 3,500-5,000 giga-tons (GT) between Shen Zhen Tian He Wei Hang Investment Co. Ltd. and PT Zadasa (DCI). Estimated investment is USD 5.1 billion.

2. High speed train from Jakarta to Surabaya (800 kilometers) between China Railway Construction Corporation Limited and PT Resteel Industry Indonesia.
3. Coal and Power Joint Project Development between China Shenhua Overseas Development and PT Adaro Power.
4. Cooper Processing in Gresik, East Java Province, amounting to USD 100 million, between Shining Resources and PT Maspion Group.
5. Sugar plant worth USD 306 million with capacity of 25,000 TCD in Mojokerto, East Java Province, between Zou Ji Hao International Investment and PT Sinar Sukses Mandiri.
6. Industrial area in North Konawe and North Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi Province, amounting to USD 1.5 billion, between Fujian Tian Mao Property Group and PT Global Success Group.
7. Nickel smelter in Konawe, South Sulawesi Province, amounting to USD 120 million, between Golden Mega International Holdings and PT Wijaya Infrastructure Indonesia.
8. Mineral processing plant in Morowali, Central Sulawesi Province, amounting to USD 775 million, between Jiangsu Wei-wei Mining Ltd. and PT Integra Mining Nusantara.
9. Cooperation in energy, investment, and trade sector worth USD 350 million between SDIC International Trade Beijing Indonesia Prima Energy.
10. Nickel smelter in Kolaka and Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi Province, worth USD 1.3 billion between Fujian Yinhai Group and PT Eka Sampoerna Success.
11. Cooperation in natural resources sector between PT Maesa Optimalah Minerals and Versun Holding Group.
12. Development of 6,080 megawatts (MW) hydropower plant worth USD 17.8 billion in Kayan, East Kalimantan Province, between Shanghai Electric Power Co. Ltd. and PT Kayan Hydro Energy.
