Vietnam with a low affection for the metro

Only 28% of Hanoi and HoChiMinh citizens will use the subway regularly in the future, according to Vietnamese market research firm Q&Me.

According to the survey of 600 residents aged between 18 and 45 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, only 28% predicted weekday use, with 45% saying they had no plans to use it on weekends and 27% saying they had no plans to use it at all.

Such low findings are attributed to the lack of awareness of subways in Vietnam and the high perception of low convenience compared to motorcycles and bicycles, which are currently established as personal transportation vehicles.

Only 31% of those surveyed actually knew about the subway correctly, and 52% of those surveyed who suggested negative opinions of boarding cited the route as the reason for its inconvenient accessibility.

As a result, there is a growing need for the government of Hanoi, which aims to set up nine subways in 2030, Ho Chi Minh City, which is scheduled to build its first subway in 2021, and the Vietnamese government to come forward to improve public awareness of subways.
