(Engineering Daily) Nguyen Anh Duong = The highway project to be built in Vietnam is expected to expand in the future.

According to Vietnamese sources, the Vietnamese prime minister recently approved a plan for an additional 800㎞ section of the Vietnamese highway.

The newly added area is a highway project linking northern Vietnam with Laos and Cambodia, which is interpreted as part of efforts to keep pace with economic growth.

As a result, the highway construction project, which was approved in 2016, will be expanded to 7,200㎞ from the previous 6,411㎞, and the project will be carried out by 2030.

The Vietnamese government expected the size of the project to be about $57.6 billion in 2016 at the time, but the plan changes are expected to require additional project costs.

Meanwhile, the highway in Vietnam is now close to 1,000㎞, and the goal is to build an additional 2,000㎞ by 2025, after an additional 900㎞ by 2021.
