(Engineering Daily) Nguyen Anh Duong = Vietnam's Lao Cai airport business is expected to be greatly reduced.

According to local sources, the Lao Cai provincial government reduced the project cost for the Lao Cai airport project by 41 percent, or $179 million.

The decision comes as demand is expected to overlap with airports in the surrounding areas.

As a result, Lao Cai Airport, which was scheduled to be built on a scale of 371ha, is expected to have 1.5 million fewer people annually.

Meanwhile, 5 million tourists visited the Lao Cai area in northern Vietnam last year, up 18 percent from the previous year, including 800,000 foreigners.
