(Engineering Daily) Nguyen Anh Duong = The need for the expansion of the highway linking Ho Chi Minh City and the airport in Vietnam.

According to local sources, the People's Committee of Dong Nai asked the Vietnamese prime minister's office to approve the Ho Chi Minh-Dau Giay highway expansion.

Ho Chi Minh-Dau Giay Expressway is a 55㎞ highway linking Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh and Daou Giay.

The Ho Chi Minh-Dau Giay Expressway, which opened five years ago, was expected to cut its existing operation time by 60 minutes at the time of construction, but it was only 20 minutes shorter due to forecasts of demand for more vehicles.

On top of that, the congestion is expected to expand as demand for vehicles continues to increase, with the number of vehicles increasing to 16.5 million as of 2019, compared to 10 million units used annually in 2015.

In response, the People's Committee of Dong Nai plans to expand the existing four-lane highway to 10-12 lanes, and the province of Dong Nai is known to be looking for investment measures to do so.
