Approval of Water Management Project in Ben Tre with capital of USD 286 million

HANOI, DECEMBER 7 (Engineering Daily) -- The Prime Minister has approved the investment proposal of Water Management Project in Ben Tre province using Japanese ODA loans.

The project will be implemented in Ben Tre province with the capital of USD 285.7 million.

The project is aimed to protect the agriculture sector and people livings to ensure not threatened by saline water intrusion caused by climate change, seawater level rising and the over-exploitation of the Mekong River upstream; control salt and supply fresh water to serve the living and agricultural production to promote the eco-society development of Ben Tre province.

By implementing this project, 207,275 households of Ben Tre province will be provided the fresh water serving production and living; 110,442 ha of agricultural land out of 137,224 ha of total Ben Tre province’s area is provided the water, drainage, alluvium, deacidification and alkaline washing to serve the agricultural production combined  with aquaculture towards crop and pet diversification.

204,270 ha of natural land of 8 districts of Ben Tre province such as Chau Thanh, Binh Dai, Ba Tri, Giong Trom, Thanh Phu, Mo Cay Bac, Mo Cay Nam, Cho Lach and Ben Tre city is controlled salt, tide, seawater level rising and drainage.
