Signing agreement to invest the Vung Ang 2 thermal power plant with capital of USD 2.2 billion

HANOI, JANUARY 16 (Engineering Daily) -- The agreement of investment for the Vung Ang 2 thermal power plant was signed between the General Directorate of Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) and the Vung Ang 2 thermal power joint stock company on January 16 in Hanoi.

This is the result after 8 years of effort to finalize the BOT contract. Accordingly, the first turbine group will be put in operation in 2021 while the other one will become operational one year after.

The BOT Vung Ang 2 thermal power plant with the capacity of 1,200 MW consisting of two 600MW generators has been agreed by the Vietnam Government to assign the Vung Ang 2 thermal power joint stock company as the investor.

The project is constructed in Vung Ang Economic Zone, Ha Tinh province, using imported coal. The USD 2.2 billion project will supply electricity for economic development in the northern region, ensuring national electricity security.

As assigned by Ministry of Industry and Trade, the GDE will support the investor in preparing procedures on investment license and arranging finance.

Apart from the Vung Ang 2 thermal power BOT plant, the GDE is also involved with 17 other thermal power BOT projects with total capacity of 23,000 MW.
