More Japanese ODA funds into big transport projects

HANOI, JANUARY 19 (Engineering Daily) -- “While the State budget is shortage currently, Japanese ODA funds with low interest rate will play an important role for transport sector”, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dong said.

The Tan Vu – Lach Huyen road is the first project completed in 2017, the urban flyover highway, Ring road 3, section Mai Dich – Thang Long will be the first project started in the same year.

The Ring road 3 section Mai Dich – Nam Thang Long will be built along Pham Van Dong street with total length of 5.3 km. The total capital of project is estimated as VND 5,300 billion (equivalent to USD 240 million), mainly from Japanese ODA and government counterpart funds.

Mr. Vu Xuan Hoa, General Director of Thang Long PMU (Ministry of Transport) said that, the PMU is speeding up the contractor selection progress in order to start the project in the early Quarter 2 of 2017.

In order to ease the Japanese ODA funds receiving, the list of 20 infrastructure projects has just been proposed by MOT, using Japanese ODA loans in the period of 2016-2018, with total investment of Yen 270 billion (equivalent to USD 2.349 billion).

Accordingly, there are large scale projects in this project list in term of urban transport, sea port, expressway, aviation and railways.

In particular, this list includes 8 big scale projects such as North – South expressway section Trung Luong – My Thuan, Long Thanh International Airport, Hanoi – Noi Bai railways, North – South expressway section Nha Trang – Phan Thiet.

According to the representative of Planning and Investment Department (MOT), the projects in the abovementioned list all shall be prioritized to invest since they are big socio-economy efficiency and suitable with the JICA loan criteria.
