ADB-Vietnam, $224M Agreement Signed for Green Cities Development

Hanoi, August 7 (Engineering Daily) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the People's Committees of Ha Giang, Vinh Phuc and Thua Thien Hue Province have signed agreements worth $ 223.87 million for Green Cities Development Project. The project will support the sustainable development of Ha Giang, Vinh Yen and the Hue to enhance the economic competitiveness of these areas.

The three cities Ha Giang, Vinh Yen and Hue are respectively located in the Southern coastline, the Northern inland, and the Northernmost and they are socio-economically fallen behind. The different location characteristics and economical defect have the cities to be selected to proceed the Green City project.

Total project investment includes $ 3 million in the Global Environment Fund (GEF) and the same amount by the Urban Climate Change Resilience Trust Fund (UCCRFT) supported by the Rockefeller Foundation and the governments of Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In addition, technical assistance worths $ 12.8 million, of which $ 10.8 million will be funded by the GEF and $ 2 million from the UCCRTF.

The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2023. It is expected to help approximately 120,000 households.
