Manila, November 7 (Engineering Daily) -- The Department of Transportation(DOTr) has announced that more than half of the 42 existing airports in Philippine are now capable of operating flights at night.

It is a process of the plan which DOTr aims to. The department plans to have all the airports ,42, in the nation to be night-rated by 2022 when Duterte administration ends. Currently, five airports have been operated at night and four airports are scheduled to be the same by this year.

The Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade has said, "Night-rated capacity is important in that the Philippine airports can be used after sunset and it is commercially profitable." at a press briefing last Wednesday.

In terms of the project budget, the Department of Budget and Management has granted a budget of PHP76.1 billion for the night-rated projects in Panglao, Cauayan, Dipolog, Pagadian, and Cotabato by 2019. However, the budget could fluctuate as there has been an appeal to the Senate to restore its proposed budget PHP160-billion for 2019 by DOTr.
