HANOI, October 10 (Engineering Daily) -- The HCM City  People’s Committee has approved a plan for the city’s second science and technology park to be built in District 9 at a cost of around US$188 million.

To come up in Long Phuoc Ward near the Hi-Tech Park, the 200ha park will have distinct zones for research and application of advanced technologies, fabrication of high-quality products, incubation of start-ups and high-tech training for workers.

It will also collaborate with the High-Tech Park to adopt the latter’s latest technologies.

Its innovations will focus on information technology, renewable energy, energy storage, space technology, automation, and bio-medical engineering.

The park is expected to hire 15,000 people when it is up and running.

Quang Trung Software City in District 12 was the first science park to be set in the city and is the biggest in the country covering an area of 430,000㎡.

Established in 2001 QTSC houses around 140 Information and Communication Technology companies - with foreign firms accounting for nearly half - which employ 20,455 workers and researchers.

It targets becoming one of top 10 software parks in providing human resources and valued-added services in Asia by 2020.
