Manila, October 18 (Engineering Daily) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the maintenance of Manila North Road (MNR) and Manila South Road (MSR) under the 5-year, World Bank-assisted National Roads Improvement and Management Program (NRIMP) Phase II.

The construction started on September 2013 costing 3.91 billion Peso. The project covers the rehabilitation of 234-kilometer portion of MNR from Monumento, Caloocan City to Agoo/Aringay Boundary, La Union, 157.167-kilometer MSR from Tiaong, Quezon to Sta. Elena, Camarines Sur as well as 50.543-kilometer MSR from Pagsanjan, Laguna to near Lucena City.

“NRIMP is significant since MNR and MSR are both national arterial roads catering to high-volume traffic year-round. Through the project, roads that have run down were repaired and maintained through various road reblocking, asphalt overlay, and regular repainting of pavement markings,” added Undersecretary of DPWH UPMO Emil Sadain.

Implemented by DPWH-UPMO Roads Management Cluster II headed by Project Director Sharif Madsmo Hasim, the rehabilitation project of MNR and MSR will improve mobility and further boost economic growth in the already rapidly developing provinces of Central Luzon, Ilocos Region, Southern Luzon, and Bicol Region.
