BANDUNG, September 14 (EngineeringDaily) -- President-Elect Joko Widodo won’t officially be taking office until October of this year, but he is already shaking things up in the Indonesian government. One of his policies for the new administration is a reshuffling of the ministries in order to improve work efficiency.
Deputy Head of Widodo’s transition team Andi Widjajanto said the total number of ministries, 34, will remain the same in Widodo’s administration, but with several changes. According to the plan, 6 of the ministries will undergo name changes, 6 ministries will be combined, and 3 new ministries will be formed.
One of the proposed changes affects the Ministry of Education, which will be split into two, namely into a Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education and a Ministry of Higher Education and Research Technology. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Food Sovereignty will be merged with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, and the Director General of Plantation.
The three proposed new ministries are the Ministry of Demography, the Ministry of Agrarian, and the Ministry of Creative Economy. One of the planned name changes is for the Ministry of Public Works (PU), which may be changing its name to the Ministry of Infrastructure.
These changes in the structure of the ministry are intended to better align with actual circumstances and allow more effective solutions for everyday challenges.
