Pelindo To Build Rp 7 trillion Makassar New Port

BANDUNG, October 29 (EngineeringDaily) -- Indonesian state-owned enterprise of ports PT Pelindo plans to build Makassar New Port (MNP) in the province of South Sulawesi. It aims to address the sea traffic density in the eastern Indonesia area in the future. This project will cost approximately Rp 7 trillion (USD 580 million) and will be funded through a public-private partnership (PPP).

The construction of the port will be carried out in three stages. The first stage will involve land reclamation, construction of access roads, and the purchase of loading and unloading equipment with a total investment of Rp 2 trillion (USD 167 million). The second phase includes the construction of a container terminal and container yard, a container freight station, and the purchase of four units of unloading material. In the third phase, Pelindo will build another container terminal that can accommodate as many as 1 million container TEUs, a dry bulk terminal, and a multipurpose dock of 1,800 meters in length.

Operational Director of PT Pelindo 4 Herman Harianja said, “This is our largest ever project. We want to make Makassar New Port a hub for eastern Indonesia, particularly in improving the distribution of goods in Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, as the eastern half of the country is enjoying rapid development.”

Meanwhile, PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia, the state-owned enterprise dealing in the sector of infrastructure project guarantees, is in the midst of assessing the project to give their official guarantee. According to President Director of the company, Sinthya Roesly, this guarantee will provide the certainty needed for national and foreign private investors to participate in the project.
