Proposal of Japanese ODA loan for Hanoi Metro line 2 Tran Hung Dao – Thuong Dinh

HANOI, APRIL 8 (Engineering Daily) -- The Hanoi urban railway 2 section Tran Hung Dao – Thuong Dinh along 5.9 km has 6 stations, underground through districts of Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da and Thanh Xuan.

The Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Doan Toan has signed the proposal to Ministry of Planning and Investment for review and selecting the construction of Hanoi Metro line 2 section Tran Hung Dao – Thuong Dinh using the Japanese ODA loans.

The city also asks Ministry of Planning and Investment to report to the Prime Minister for approval of project proposal to help the city to implement the submission to reapprove the investment plan in conformity to public investment law.

As reported, the Metro line 2 section  Tran Hung Dao – Thuong Dinh starts at Hue street, in front of intersection of Nguyen Du – Le Van Huu (ending point of Metro line 2, section Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao) and ends at Thuong Dinh (at intersection of Nguyen Trai and ring road 2.5).

The line with 5.9 km length has 6 stations (undergrounded) through districts of Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da and Thanh Xuan. The total investment of project is estimated of Yen 177.6 billion, equivalent to VND 34,743 billion, including Yen 146 billion of foreign loans serving for construction, equipment procurement and consultant activities. The time to implement the project is 2020-2025.

The Metro line 2 is considered as a backbone of Hanoi city. The route needs to be prioritized for investment, specially investing for section through Hanoi center from Nam Thang Long to Thuong Dinh.

Recently, Hanoi is implementing the construction of Metro line 2 section Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao using Japanese ODA loans. The continuation of the investment of section Tran Hung Dao to Thuong Dinh is planned to connect the central metropolitan areas as well as connect two other Metro lines, Yen Vien and Ngoc Hoi (line 1) and Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station (line 3), forming a modern and complete public transport network.
