HANOI, May 31 (Engineering Daily) -- By 2020, Hanoi will continue to focus on infrastructure investment as the basis for addressing the current traffic jams and leveraging for the socio-economic development of the Capital city. In the period of 2017-2020, Hanoi will mobilize about VND 452,239 billion (equivalent to about USD 20 billion) to invest 38 urban infrastructure projects.

Remove the “bottleneck” of infrastructure

Before 2015, it took 1 hour to go from inner city to Noi Bai International Airport along 40 km. However, with the length of 12 km from Nhat Tan bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap street which is the most beautiful road in Hanoi inaugurated in January 2015, contributes to shorten the travelling time down to 30 minutes.

The completion of Long Bien intersection and the flyover bridge at this intersection in early 2017 helped the National Highway 5 and Highway 5 extension connected, linking with the Nhat Tan - Noi Bai route to form a spine route of East - North City trade. From 2016 until now, the city has focused on directing the completion of five key projects, including: Ring Road 1 (O Dong Mac - Nguyen Khoai); North Thang Long - Van Tri urban road intersection with Bac Hong - Van Dien railway line; highway 5 extension; Ring road 2; and improving the efficiency of Nhat Tan - Noi Bai route. In terms of economic aspects, good transportation infrastructure is always an advantage to attract domestic and foreign investors.

Director of Transportation Department of Hanoi Vu Van Vien said: “Implementing Resolution No. 13-NQ / TU (XI) on construction of synchronous infrastructure system in the direction of modern transport is now one step ahead. In the past 3 years, the city has worked closely with the Ministry of Transport to complete a series of key traffic projects in the capital city in particular and the whole country in general, such as: Phap Van - Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway, Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway, Hanoi - Lao Cai expressway, highway 5 extension, flyover ring road 3, Nhat Tan - Noi Bai route; Vinh Thinh bridge, Phu Dong 2 bridge, Nhat Tan bridge; Noi Bai Terminal 2 and so on.”

"The city has prioritized resources, actively invested in the construction and completion of a number of important transport infrastructure works such as Dong Tru Bridge, Highway No. 5 extension, Highway 32, Mo Lao Bridge, Tran Phu - Kim Ma route and 7 steel overpasses at intersections and so on. These works have improved traffic capacity, contributing to the reduction of congestion and traffic accidents, socio-economic development, security and national defense, step by step creating a modern and civilized urban appearance.”
