HANOI, June 21 (Engineering Daily) -- According to the report of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Investment, 153 PPP projects have been implemented in the city with a total capital of more than VND 450,000 billion.
Of which, 23 projects were completed, mainly in the areas of transport and environment. Specifically, Phu My Bridge Project, Ha Noi Highway Extension from Saigon Bridge to Thu Duc Intersection, Thu Duc Water Plant BOO Project and etc.
PPP projects account for only 5% of the city's total public investment, but the source of funding is five times more than the city's public investment in the 2011-2015 period, and this is one of the solutions to attract investment suitable for Ho Chi Minh City. Investment projects in the form of PPP have solved the urgent need of the City residents in traffic, flooding and environmental improvement.
Talking to investors in the framework of a PPP conference held this week, representatives of the Department of Planning and Investment of Ho Chi Minh City said that the total demand for development investment capital of the City in period of 2016-2020 is estimated at VND 850,000 billion, in which the city budget only meet about 20%.
Therefore, the City will have many solutions and new ways to attract PPP investment. Of these, 6 priority areas are the environment; education; medical; culture - sports; transportation infrastructure; renovation and construction of old apartments.
Chairman of HCM City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong said that the demand of capital for traffic, environment and flood prevention has reached nearly VND 500 trillion, not including urban upgrading and development projects. Therefore, the issue of attracting PPP investment is very urgent. The city will be in the lead, drastically directing, implementing new ways to attract this capital.
The city is calling for investment of 130 PPP projects with the total capital of more than VND 380,000 billion in transportation, environment, apartment building, urban embellishment, health care and education.
