HANOI, October 9 (Engineering Daily) -- More than 2 million USD will be funded by South Korea to study the monorail line No. 2 (Highway 50 - Binh Quoi Urban Area).
HCMC Metro line PMU said that the study on the project to build a monorail line No. 2 (Highway 50 - Binh Quoi Urban Area) will be carried out during one year from June 2019 to May 2020.
Funding for this is USD 2.04 million, non-refundable granted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
It is expected that the monorail line No. 2 will use tires, powered by electrically on separate bridge and unmanned. It consists of 6 cars, carrying 316 passengers at a speed of 30-70 km/h.
More than 27 km length, the monorail line No. 2 will be oriented to connect with Metro line 3a (Ben Thanh - Tan Kien).
This monorail route is expected to attract more passengers as it passes through many densely populated areas including Districts 2, 7, Binh Thanh and Binh Chanh District.
The project is calling for investment from BOT and PPP with total investment capital of more than VND 15,000 billion.
According to Adjustment Planning approved by the Government, HCMC will have 8 metro lines (subway), 1 tramway and 2 monorail lines. In particular, the monorail No. 3 is 16.5 km long from Phan Van Tri - Nguyen Oanh crossroad - Tan Chanh Hiep station.
In May, HCMC and Busan City signed a MoU for the construction of the monorail No. 2 in a trip to South Korea led by Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong.
Monorail has appeared in many major cities around the world, having the advantage of being much cheaper than high-altitude railways and underground railways. Construction time is also shorter and less impact on traffic. In addition, this type of transport also takes up less space because of the small monorail posts spaced apart.
