HANOI, November 17 (Engineering Daily) -- Emboldened by previous successes, Japan's Taisei Group is seeking opportunities to join new transport infrastructure projects in Vietnam.

At a meeting with the new Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The The yesterday, Taiji Yanai, chief representative of Taisei Group in Vietnam, said that his group is interested in transport projects in Vietnam, especially those using Japanese ODA.

The Minister introduced several transport infrastructure projects that the Japanese group could join. They included bridge projects, expressways, railway upgrades, as well as modernization and ports.

According to the Ministry of Transport (MoT), road transport, railways, airports, and seaports are the most attractive investment fields for FDI investors. In road transport and railways, foreign investors are very keen on expressways and high-speed railway projects. South Korean, Japanese, and Chinese firms are especially interested in high-speed railways.

Foreign firms are also interested in large international airports. For example, Japan’s ANA Holdings became a strategic investor of Vietnam Airlines, while France’s Aéroports de Paris expressed interest in becoming Airports Corporation of Vietnam's strategic investor. Long Thanh International Airport is also an intriguing prospect for international groups who are working with MoT on the possibilities of investing in this project.

Transhipment seaports are also a big interest, especially the Ho Chi Minh City-Dong Nai, Khanh Hoa-Cam Ranh, Quy Nhon, and Haiphong-Quang Ninh port complexes.

Meanwhile, established in 1873, Taisei is one of Japan's four biggest construction groups. Taisei’s name was highlighted through their work on large-scale projects in Japan, such as Kansai, Narita, and Haneda international airports and the undersea road connecting Honsu and Kokkaido islands.

Present in Vietnam since 1993, Taisei has joined many projects in the country, including Can Tho Bridge, National Highway 50, the international terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Cuu Long Bridge, the upgrading of 44 railway bridges of the North-South railway network, and T2 international terminal of Noi Bai International Airport.
