HANOI, March 18 (Engineering Daily) --The investment and construction project of the Dai Ngai Bridge on Highway No. 60 located in Tra Vinh and Soc Trang provinces is proposed by the Ministry of Transport to use ODA loans from Japan.

The Ministry of Transport has proposed the Prime Minister to approve the policy of investing in the construction project of Dai Ngai Bridge on Highway No. 60 linking Tra Vinh and Soc Trang using Japanese ODA loans in fiscal 2018.

The project has a starting point at the Highway No. 54 in Tieu Can district, Tra Vinh province; ending point at Nam Song Hau road, Long Phu district, Soc Trang province.

The total length of the entire project is 15.2 km, including the 2.56 km long Dai Ngai 1 bridge and the 0.86 km long Dai Ngai 2 bridge, in which construction of 4-lane bridge and 2-lane approach road will be carried out in Phase I. The total investment of the Phase I is VND 8,040 billion, equivalent to YEN 39.405 billion, of which the loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is YEN 34.573 billion, the rest is the counterpart fund of the Vietnamese Government.

If approved by the Prime Minister, the project will be prepared for investment from 2018 to 2020 and implementation in 4 years (2021 - 2025).

The Ministry of Transport expects JICA loan under Special Terms for Economic Partnership conditions to utilize Japanese technology, experience and technical transfers to advanced technology and new equipment and materials.

In the short term, the Ministry of Transport has proposed JICA to support to prepare the feasibility study report after the Prime Minister’s approval of the pre-feasibility study report.

The completion of the Dai Ngai Bridge project will contribute to the completion of the Highway No. 60, improving the transport capacity of the Mekong Delta, creating a convenient connection between the southern coastal provinces and with Ho Chi Minh City, shortening travel time, reducing transportation costs, expanding trade and eliminating the monopoly of Highway No. 1, especially to shorten the distance of 80km compared to existing Highway No. 1 when moving from Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu back to Ho Chi Minh City.

In July this year, the Government decided to use the national budget as the project’s funding source instead.
