HANOI, July 3 (Engineering Daily) -- With a coastline of 72 km, Soc Trang is not only favorable in the development of fishing, aquaculture, seaports, logistics, tourism. but also has a great advantage in developing wind energy with industrial scale.
 

There are over 25,000 hectares of coastal alluvial land in Soc Trang province, which is the advantage of Soc Trang that other provinces do not have.

 

According to the survey of domestic and foreign investors, the coastal areas of Soc Trang has great potential for wind power, due to long and wide coast, big and stable wind power every month. Based on the monitoring data, in the coastal districts of Soc Trang province, at a height of 60m, the average wind speed is 6.2 - 6.4 m/s, so the investment in developing wind power is very convenient.
 

According to Liu Wayne, General Director of Envision Energy, the company has surveyed a number of wind power development planning sites that Soc Trang province is calling for investment and found that wind resources are plentiful, therefore they are applying for investment policy and asking the province to consider, so that the company soon complete the dossier in the coming time.
 

In addition, domestic and foreign investors assess that Soc Trang is one of the best wind potential areas in the country to invest in wind power. So far, investors have actively contacted Soc Trang PPC to learn about investment opportunities in this field. After knowing the aspirations of investors, Soc Trang province has been very active in creating conditions to support investors in researching and implementing the project.

 

According to the plan of wind power development in Soc Trang province to 2020, the vision to 2030 approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Decision No. 3909 / QD-BCT with the surveyed area of 35,740 hectares, the potential capacity is of 1,470 MW. In particular, in the period up to 2020, wind power projects will be developed in 13 locations with a survey area of 27,800 ha, with a potential capacity of 1,155 MW (development capacity of 200 MW); From 2021 to 2030, wind power projects will be developed in 9 locations with a survey area of 7,940 ha and a potential capacity of 315 MW.
 

Soc Trang province is calling for investment in wind power projects for both phases of the planning. Up to now, there have been about 30 investors registered to survey and set up projects in the province's wind power development planning. Of these, the province has issued investment guidelines for 3 projects and is considering the remaining projects.
 

Apart from the potential for wind power development, Soc Trang province has great potential for solar power. According to measured data, the number of sunny hours in the province is quite high, ranging from 2,292 hours to 2,488 hours, the highest in May and the lowest in September. On average, there are about 6.8 - 7.5 hours / day.
