Manila, September 3 (Engineering Daily) -- The Department of Transportation(DOTr) reported the first intermodal transport in the country Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) has been launched by the end of last month.

The terminal facility is expected to reduce the number of buses from provinces in the south of Metro Manila and the purpose of introducing the intermodal transport system is to ease traffic flow along the areas of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), Baclaran and Taft Avenue.

The facility includes online ticketing, radio frequency identification (RFID) and it accommodates up to 200,000 train, jeepney and bus passengers per day.

It connects passengers from the Cavite side to other transport systems operating in Metro Manila such as LRT Line 1 South Extension.

Provincial buses is no longer allowed to traverse along major roads in Metro Manila but instead terminals are going to be installed outside the metropolis for buses and passengers to be linked to other modes of public transportation.

The project has cost P2.50 billion.
